My norton subscription had ran out so I was surfing the web looking for a new Anit-Virus. I wasn't willing to pay so I downloaded one named
Avira. It wasn't very powerful and recommended so I decided to look for a better one, something more popular. I ran into a pop-up named "Security Tool". It appeared to also be an anti-virus program which was free so I was very interested. I opened the site and rushed to the bottom of the page for the download, since I don't care much about the terms and information, so after a couple of minutes I installed the program.
It seemed pretty simple, basic, and easy to understand. I preferred that over a lot of pointless information and useless custom options. After a while surfing the web, a pop-up came up. It was Security Tool alerting me to let me know that my Laptop was under a lot of risk. I was a bit confused as I had never had any troubles with anything like this before, so I just ignored it for the time being. Just 20 seconds later, another one popped up telling me I should run a system scan. I got a bit worried so I agreed to sacn it.
After the short scan was over I appeared to have hundreds of trojans in my laptop! 41 infections and over 300 trojans. I was shocked as
Norton had never told me this before, even though it was professional.
I clicked "Fix now!" on the tab underneath the scan and soon after it told me to remove the infections I had to buy their Security first, but the thing told me it was free earlier, just before I downloaded it. The products were far too dear and I was better off just searching the web for better prices, but my internet began to get worse and worse and was almost completely unusable. Pop-ups kkept coming up and this time every 10 seconds! I got fed up and decided to find a way to remove Security Tool.
I then deleted it from my drive but weirdly, it was still on my toolbar with pop-ups still on the way. I was unable to remove it from my laptop and it was stuck their. I then heard from
Eklipse I should use something called
AVG. It was an anti-virus program that looked more popular than Security Tool and less fustrating and irritating. I downloaded AVG and later, done a system scan with it.
After the san, AVG told me there was completely no infections in my laptop at all! And I knew i'd believe that over Security Tool's results. I was so relieved and it was time I found a way to remove Security Tool since it was now useless to me. After reading some articles about it, it turns out Security Tool was a fake Anti-Virus program that was more of a virus itself. It tricks people into buying its fake products and attacks the users computer. I couldn't believe I fell for something so stupid.
After many failed attempts of trying to remove it, I decided to recover my laptop instead with a system recovery. But the thing had gotten so bad it wasn't possible, so all-together I had to fully reset my laptop as if it was just new. I didn't care I had lost everything, I was just happy my laptop was safe and was back to normal. I hope no one is tricked by this either and if it ever pops-up on Internet Explorer quickly close your browser, not just your tab, the entire thing.
